LOST ACRES LODGE 1949 2023 was a big year at Lost Acres. We celebrated the 75th+ years of the resort being a resort. In putting together the history of the resort we are uncertain when it really came into existence but we think somewhere in the late 1930s or early 1940s. We know for sure that the Lodge became 75 years old this year. We also celebrated our (the Mahaffey family) 20th year as owners of Lost Acres. So, there were many fun things we did to celebrate all this over the past summer. Over the summer and fall of 2023, we highlighted many of the families and people that have been coming to Lost Acres on our Facebook page. So many people sent us wonderful pictures and great stories. Look back at the Facebook posts over this past year to enjoy some of those pictures and stories. We are now putting together a book with the history of the resort, as best we know it, so that the history does not get lost. We have interviewed many past patrons over the past year to paste together the history. And, by the beginning of next season we will have the history book completed. Many wonderful pictures have been given to us as we put it all together. More on that toward spring! We thank all our guests (now friends) for the past 20 years of our ownership of the resort. It has been a labor of love re-building this wonderful place. And, we look forward to many more years here. Summer 2022 is almost over and what a summer it has been! Our guests have been absolutely amazing this summer and they have had a lot to endure. Early on the lake level was down since we did not get as much snowfall last winter and because the gates at the dam were open despite our frequent calls to the Corps of Engineers. So, guests had challenges getting boats in the lake despite our having a new boat ramp. Fishing remained steady and strong though. Then the drought caused significant dry conditions and a couple of times we have had to do a ban on campfires. What is a vacation and a Minnesota resort without a campfire? That looks like it could be a continuing problem for awhile as we have no rain in sight! And, lastly we had a HUGE hail storm that damaged cars, campers, and cabins. Baseball and softball sized hail came in a torrent that lasted about 30 minutes and did all that damage. We are all still trying to recover from that. But, despite all those adversities, our guests still managed to enjoy their summer vacations here. We have the best guests EVER here at Lost Acres!
After the last year we have all had we are all happy to be back for summer fun on Kitchi lake and the Cass Lake chain. It was cool initially but the past week has found us having temps in the 90s! So everyone is at the beach and in the water. Fishing has generally been good but the mayflies slowed things up a bit this past week. It is so good to see everyone again and if you haven't made your summer vacation plans yet please give us a call as we have a few openings in August yet.
Check out that sunset on Kitchi Lake!!! Can't you just hear the loons calling? This is the earliest spring we've had since we've been at Lost Acres! It is glorious! We've had warm temps and sunshine and the ice went out yesterday....April 4th...that is unheard of! It will be so nice to not worry that there will be ice on the lake for Fishing Opener. We are working to get the resort ready for all our guests already. Fishing Opener is May 15 this year which is a week later than usual. We saw the first loon today. And all the other waterfowl are returning to the lake area too. We have a few changes this year. We updated the boat ramp but the ice pushed it up so we will need to do a little adjusting to it. The old shed by the seasonal dock got a face lift. Cabin 8 got new windows and some furniture updating. Since the weather is nice early we are planning some landscaping changes. Cabin 6 is scheduled to get a new roof this week. We are anxious for everyone to come back. We are all looking forward to another great summer! A few openings yet!The summer looks to be very busy but we still have a few openings. So, if you haven't already made your summer vacation plans give us a call and hopefully we will have a spot for you. Have a great spring and we will see you soon for summer fun!
The year of 2020 (the year none of us will forget) is coming to a close! We were very fortunate to have been able to be open this past summer so you all had a place to come for a SAFE family vacation, despite all the changes that had to be made. Hopefully next summer will be more normal and we will again be able to enjoy the great times in the Northwoods and on the lake. Here is a gift, a memory, for you of our beautiful lake and the beautiful sunsets of our summers. If you have not yet made your vacation plans, give us a call as we still have a few openings.
We wish you all a healthy, happy, and peaceful holiday season! May 2021 be a better year for all of us! It’s so easy to get lost in the hustle and bustle of daily life, especially when instant communication is expected. Our lives can be consumed by our busy schedules and distractions, like our smartphones and other devices. Even though we are physically there, our devices can take away from some of the simple joys in life. Now that we are through the holiday season, it is the perfect time to plan a getaway or maybe a family reunion for this upcoming summer and escape to Lost Acres Resort.
Our resort is located on Kitchi Lake, which is a part of the Cass Lake chain of lakes. Get lost on the lake spending the day fishing for Walleye, Northerns, Muskies, and Panfish. If you want to spend the day on the lake, but fishing isn’t your first option, we have a variety of other activities for you! You can either hang out at the beach and go swimming, or use a paddle boat, kayak, or canoe! Lost Acres Resort is the perfect place to get lost on the lake and reconnect with family and friends!
